It’s daybreak as we head out of town. Our view is a big sky with shades of blue in the cloud cover. The sun is just coming up on the horizon.

It’s the end of February, and hopefully winter will be coming to an end.

We haven’t been out hiking since the last week of December a few days after Christmas.

What a great feeling as we turn off the highway onto the dirt county road.

Surprisingly there is barely any snow. The cattle are grazing in the distance.

Bare cottonwood trees by the river.

The Powderville river looks high and frozen in spots.

Stump Creek is overflowing onto the county road but we drive through the stream. There isn’t any form of a bridge just a few big smooth rocks.

The sun is shining. It’s a beautiful winter morning for a hike.

First dino fragment!

Amazing views!

We keep adventuring…

We hike to this last row of hills hoping to discover something amazing. Our day in the field is coming to an end.

No discoveries today but it was an amazing feeling to be back out hiking. I’ll get the gate, new adventures await, if we don’t get snow!

On the road back to town.

This creek is high as we cross a bridge. On the other side of the bridge is a grouping of old cottonwood trees. There used to be a pair of cranes that lived there in the Spring and early summer. Although it has been several years since we have seen the cranes, but we always look.

There are two mule deers near the dirt road as we are nearing the Powderville river.

This section of the county road is called the Saddleback.

We are almost back to the blacktop road.

Our day ends with our favorite group of horses, as it began. Homeward bound.
